First Visits
What To Expect At Your Child’s First Visit
At Dunwoody Pediatric Dentistry, we've designed your child's first visit to be a positive, enjoyable experience for the entire family. As your local Dunwoody pediatric dentist, Dr. Luke Robert and our team love meeting new families and introducing little ones to a lifetime of fun, informative dental care. Here's what you can expect at your child's first visit.
Step 1
At Dunwoody Pediatric Dentistry, the primary goal of the first visit is to establish a warm and welcoming environment for the child and the parent. We have a dedicated room for seeing infants and toddlers with extra amenities like a comfy chair, toys, books, changing table, and more. This provides a more private space where the child can get acclimated with their new dental home.
Step 2
The parent will have one-on-one time with Dr. Luke with the focus being education, nutritional counseling, oral hygiene instruction, and any other questions the parent may have!
Step 3
Throughout subsequent visits, your child will be introduced to the various elements of a typical dental visit such as the prophy cleaning, x-rays, and fluoride treatments. This gradual introduction helps to ease the child into their new dental environment, creating a positive relationship with the dental office, with the hope of reducing the potential for future dental anxiety!

Behavior Guidance Counseling
Sitting in the dental chair isn’t always easy. Our behavior counseling empowers your child to face challenges, overcome obstacles, and gain confidence as they learn how to take charge of their oral health.
Desensitization Appointments
First visits are overwhelming sometimes — there are so many new faces, sounds, and expectations! To help your child adjust, we offer desensitization appointments. Through a series of visits, we’ll give your child a tour of our office, introduce our friendly team, and teach them about dental tools. This helps your kiddo get acclimated with our space so they can feel safe, secure, and cared for.
Nutritional Counseling
A wholesome diet will keep your child’s teeth and body healthy, all while reducing the risk of cavities and other oral health issues. Your pediatric dentist can recommend dietary modifications to set your child’s smile and whole-body health up for success.
